The Hellenic (Greek) Handball Federation have revealed the logo for both the IHF Men’s and Women’s Beach Handball World Championships and IHF Men’s and Women’s Youth (U18) Beach Handball World Championships, taking place in Heraklion this June.
White and blue – the colours of the Greece flag – dominate the design which is inspired by its “…cultural heritage, the mythology of Crete and the Minoan culture,” according to a media release.
The Greek flag, the beach handball ball, the Minotaur, the Labyrinth, the Minoan Griffin, the Minoan Dolphin and the Hieroglyphics all feature in the specially-commissioned, bespoke design.
Greece held their first Panhellenic Beach Handball Championship in 1996, with their women’s senior side causing one of the biggest-ever upsets in IHF World Championship history, winning the 2018 IHF Women’s Beach Handball World Championship in Kazan, Russia.
Due to coronavirus, the 2018 edition was the last event that took place, with Greece still holding the title from four years ago.
