Spain and Hungary both bookedtheirplace in the quarter-finals, while Brazil edged closer to qualification after Matchday 1 for Group A was completed. Poland, on the other hand, need to defeateither Spain later todayor (June 17) Ukraine tomorrow, to qualify. The latter are still in the mix, as does Thailand.
The Spaniards beat Thailand 2-0 despite facing stiff opposition in the second set (22:10, 20:18).
Brazil came back from one set down to defeat Polandin the shoot-out with 2-1 (6:21, 26:15, 8:6) and take the upper hand in regards with qualification to the quarter-finals.
Ukraine showed their fighting spirit in the first set, but Hungary were a class of their own in the second, to win the game with 2-0 (20:17, 20:12).

The Netherlands and Argentina maintained their undefeated record on Matchday 1of the Main Round and became the first teams to qualify for the quarter-finals from Group B.
Euten scored 18 points forthe Netherlands and Marsmanadded 16 more points to help their team easily overcome the obstacle of France with 2-0 (26:11, 27:20), while Argentina dominated their game against Puerto Rico.
Germany defeated hosts Greece with 2-0 (21:13, 25:15) and need to win one of their two remaining matches to ensure their presence in the quarter-finals.
