Group A
European champions Sweden, didn’t advance to the quarter-finals in what it was the biggest surprise of the Main Round at the Men’s Youth World Championships, in Heraklion.
In an amazing decider, France defeated the Swedes 2-1 and sent them to fight for places 9-16, after their opponents sufferedtheir third successive defeat in the Main Round. On the contrary, Les Bleus finished third in their Group and will fight with the Germans in the quarter-finals.
Croatia, already qualified since yesterday,defeated Qatar 2-1 in the shoot and will meet Ukraine for a place in the semi-finals. Qatarwill continue in the consolation round.
Iran finished second in their Group with six points, after their 2-0 victory over Brazil. However, selecao, tight in points with Sweden, were the ones to qualify since they have beaten Sverige.
GroupB
The first place of the Group was captured by the Spaniards who defeated Ukraine 2-1 in the shoot-out, coming from one set down. Ukraine also qualified to the quarter-finals, from the fourth place, thanks to their win over Jordan which broke the tie with the team from Asia.
Jordan could have qualified had they won Germany, but fell short in the shoot-out, in a spectacular third set which ended 13:12 in favour of the Germans!
Greece lost 2-0 to Argentina and will play for places 9-16. Albiceleste qualified from the third place and will meet Iran in the quarter-finals.
Group C
In the classification round, USAregistered a historic 2-0 first global win over Togo. The Czech Republic defeated Uruguay 2-0 (26:21, 19:14) in the game that decided the first place in Group C.
