The Youth World Beach Handball Championships is at its peak with today's finals. Argentina may not be there as both teams were eliminated in the quarter-finals, but the Argentines have made their mark both in competition and in the stands.
They are some of the most fervent fans we have seen here in Heraklion these days, and both teams are noticed by their singing once they are at the Karteros Beach sports center.
We got the chance to talk to two athletes from Argentina, Luca La Delfa and Magali Alfredi.
The two of them convey their passion, their love for beach handball and try to pass on their Argentinian temperament to us.
We started with the classic question, why they decided to play beach handball.
"I wanted to do everything about handball. It was a good opportunity to play handball in the summer as well," says Alfredi.
On the other hand, Luca said that after the Youth Olympics held in Buenos Aires he was "enchanted" by the sport and decided to get involved. It is a dream come true to participate in the World Championships.
We then asked their opinion on the facilities at Karteros beach sport center
Mangali Alfred: “It's really incredible here. The place is amazing both in terms of courts and organisation. I love summer so here in Crete it's just great."
Luca La Delfa: "I love the beach and it's really great here. The environment is also perfect. As a beach handball player it's really a dream to be here," they said.
This year we participated in a tournament in Rosario, Brazil, Chile. That was our preparation basically before we arrived to play here at the World Championships. First of all, we came here to enjoy the game and see what would happen. Being in the best eight in the world is something big in itself."
As for what their decisions are for the future, both agreed that they would definitely like to study something sports-related.
Alfredi: "I don't really know yet. I definitely want something related to sports or medicine.
La Delfa: "Definitely something with sports. Mostly gymnastics academy, or sports journalism."
The passion they have for the games, the music they listen to and the amazing support of the Albiceleste fans' has made a big impression on all the people in the organization.
"We are just like in Argentina. In life, in music and in everything. We live intensely, we have passion. We want to show everyone our temperament".
